Well, a woman who I garden for said she was waiting for a plumber... Hang on says I, what's the problem. Water coming through bedroom ceiling, ok, I'll have a look, up in loft, hot as hell, ahhh, floor wet, chipboards giving way under my feet, careful as I made my way to the cwsc. Yes, it's a weeping compression fitting, right I'll tighten it up, hang on I thought, what's that noise? Mmmm.... water pissing out from a pinhole. Ok, I tell the woman, I'll be back at 3. I'll fix it. Cancel the others. I buy some pipe & get back. Stopcock in kitchen seized up. Out in road, new water meter, easy to turn off. So back up I go to the sweltering loft, wait a few mins & the water stops spraying out, cut 6" piece of pipe out, put straight coupler & ballofix on, nice and tight, water in, no leaks, yippee Clear up. She says how much? I say what do the other company say they'll charge you? £50 callout, £60 first hour plus parts, £25 per half after that. Ok, I'll charge you £65 all in. Oh, I thought you'd charge £20??!!!! Errrr... no, I've done you a favour & charged less. Right, oh, ok, right, is a cheque ok? No, cash only. Ffs I was really happy with the job. I need more plumb, loved it. Couple of pics.

How much would you have charged Tom?

I'd probably charge about 50 for that, but rates are pretty low here and if you're in and out in half an hour for much more than that you don't get called back. 65 is probably about right for most places and some companies would charge 200 for the same job in some parts of the country. I must ask though, how do you keep your pipe slice so shiny?

It's hardly used that's why!! I need more plumb jobs JC. It's new really but didn't cut great today. Wasn't pleased with it. It's a decent one too. I try to buy good tools.

I'd have charged £30 call out,( thats for the first half hour) £20 for the bits, and £20 for the extra time,£70, I'd tell them on the phone the charge so they either accept it or leave it,

that's a fair point pipeslice, and most lofts now have a foot think lagging, you can't see where to tread and if you shift the lagging you're breathing in A LOAD of the shite, Come to think of it, Lofts are off the menu for me now,
