this is a true story, 1993 mayby 94 I was subbying for a Wigan company that renovated pubs all over Britain and it involved working away from home, So we were booked into a small Hotel run by a very stern land lady who had notices on every appliance, door, wall, table and room, do not smoke in the room, do not use the bath after 10pm, do not flush the toilet after 11.30pm no music/tellys in room after 11pm, breakfast is between 7 am-9am, do not bring food into the lounge, no drinking in the rooms, no guests allowed in the hotel, these signs were endless, anyrode we took our cases to the room and went down to go out for a few drinks and something to eat in the town. As we're going to the front door i noticed a sign saying, " no late night keys given, you must be in before I am." So i went knocking on her private door and asked, " what time are you coming in" she nearly bit my head off " and what's that got to do with you laddie" she barked, so I said " it says on the door we have to be in before you come in", " Where does it say that" she asked, I pointed at the front door, She shook her head and muttered something in a Scottish accent I did't understand, then she took hold of my ear and dragged me to the door and said very loudly so the whole of the hotel could hear, " can you no read you dunderheed, that says to be in before one AM, that's an hour after midnight or you are locked out" ,,,, the morning after i booked out,

Another time we worked in Chatham Kent, 1978/9
It was late evening by the time we arrived so we saw this little pub with a sign in the window " Bed and Breakfast" , we thought yeyyy a pub, in we went and book in then went down to the bar, There's the barman/landlord my mate and myself and no one else, So we had a few pints to damp the dust of the journey and wondering what to do next, its only 7pm, A few folks start wondering in, but they're going into the back room, So I asked the bar man where's everyone going, He said they're going to the disco, Well my eyes light up, yea right i can do a mean disco dance, lets go, The landlord put his hand up, " steady on lad, It might not be your scene, If you promice to behave i'll have a word and they might let you in" fine yea, I'm well behaveable. So the landlord takes us to the back room entrance and has a word with the geezer at the entrance, All good, you can go in, be behave your selves or they'll make you sorry,
So in we steps and straight away I'm fucking shocked, its a gay bar, its the very first I've ever seen, blokes kissing each other, leather jackets, beards, sunglasses and blokes with handbags, we turned round and walked out, the barman laughed, We walked up the street and every pub was a gay bar, We'd booked into a pub run by gays, that was another pub we booked out of the morning after,
I'm not predigest about gays, everyone has a right to live their own life, but i was very uncomfortable in their home territory, smiley-confused002asak2

When I worked for a shopfitting company in Oldham, they used to book me into a local pub. Landlord used to keep the bar open until about 1 in the morning (and I used to be rather inebriated) The rooms had yale latches on't doors and if I needed the toilet during the night I'd always be careful to make sure I had my room key with me.. (you can see where this is going) One night, I'd got up about 3 in the bloody morning, dying for a piss and went to the toilet along the landing just in me undies. Had a piss and got back to my room,, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr fookin key was still in the bloody room. I had no option but to wake the landlord up to let me back in't room.

I had a mate in the early 90's who bought a flat in Slough. One bedroom modern, quite nice.
Anyhow, he got drunk & went home. In the morning he woke up naked outside he front door, in the small communal hallway he shared with his female neighbour. He was locked out & had pissed on the carpet obviously thinking he was in his bathroom. He knocked his neighbour up in the morning & called a locksmith. His neighbour wasn't a looker, she was like the hulk.
