I fitted one once on a secondary return that keep collecting air through a shit layout but what I did was fitted a non return valve before it so when it was pumping it wouldn't pull air and when it was idle the air could escape, worked a treat and the customer didn't need to spend a fortune on a repipe.

Keep seeing this quite alot, wonder why they make this mistake?😕 Looking at the picture its an ideal place for air to catch, so I'd imagine the one on the return side would only be used when the system has been drained and refilled and once air is out it would be shut down.

good thinking that PB, about the check valve,
they mostly fit them on both legs because no one knows which is which if the boiler is not fitted, what they should do is swap the return for a manual when they find out, but most of the time its a case of moving on to the next job and leave that to the snagger, smiley-finger005
