Hi
My customer wants a kitchen tap changed.
They've got good mains & a combi boiler that feeds the hot.
The tap they want states for high pressure systems only.
What do you think?
Will it be ok with the combi or is it for unvented hot?
Thx

high pressure sytems only, that means combi or megaflow but not vented cylinder, So you're ok with that one,

Ok thx
It also states
that if the hot & cold are unbalanced then a listed check valve must be fitted upstream on both hot & cold supplies.
Where would upstream be?

a combi system is balanced ( the pressure on both taps is the same) or near as damn it, so you don't need them,

Can you give an example where check valves would be needed please!
An unbalanced system?

but upstream means against the direction of water, downstream means in the direction of water, think of a stream/river it runs downhill so downstream its flowing,

you need check valves where the cold is mains pressure and the hot is gravity, if you don't fit check valves the cold can force the hot away from the tap in a mixer tap, so you'd get cold out of the hot tap,

Ok, so a vented hot supply & mains cold would be unbalanced & should have check valves to stop the force of the cold pushing the hot back

Don't get me started on air locks as I've had a terrible experience
Maybe we could start a new thread tomorrow on them to discuss separately?

Was changing kitchen tap
Before I arrived my mate turned off stop cock & turned taps on to drain, he should've looked in airing cupboard as there was a gate valve to isolate hot!
Anyway, changed tap, mains back in, checked in loft, cwsc all ok & filling hwsc, once filled no water to any taps hot or cold other the kitchen cold off main.
Tried everything to clear the air, hoses, hand over taps, took me 2 hrs.
It was a kitchen mixer so couldn't put a hose on it (?)
Put a hose on d/s cloak room & cleared that plus the other bathroom but kitchen hot was big problem.
I cleared it in the end by putting my hand over the spout & turning hot & cold on, got pretty wet even with towel over it.
I've now got a wet vac but never used it for an air lock
It really knocked my confidence. Really badly.
