There is a pink what appears to be oil substance leaking from my boiler   The plastic cap on the thingammywotsit was a loose but there is a breather hole in the cap any way so this has probably not sorted the problem  |

Thats a auto air vent.a.a.v..i would say your a.a.v needs replacing (they often leak)Some heating systems are oiled filled. Or it could be iron oxide if its runs on water.

Have you "Air Source" or "Ground Source" heating Eric?
It's just that we get called to a lot of similar leaks (it's the anti freeze in it that's that gooey substance).
I drained down one in the summer and in the process killed a large patch of grass in the customers lawn!
My point is be careful about touching it because if it kills grass you don't really want to be getting it on your hands.
