I went out to a domestic job an old lady to sort a couple of taps out and she said her water bills have been really high lately. jvtsl41E0pOEtzQWTQLo thumbs down I went in the smallest loft known to man ( I got half of me in there,,,just) and the float arm had fallen off and was floating in the tank,so high bills explained. The valve was a twat to change as I had to cut across the nut to release it. smiley-confused002asak2 Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Second job was a toilet fill valve in the gents toilet for a restaurant and they said that their water bills are fairly high and then I noticed the urinals constantly filling and flushing and when I looked it had a cistermiser fitted but no petcock it was running fullbore into the cistern and this had not that long been fitted, so I popped a petcock on and a check valve which was also missing. PB and his shuttle to the rescue. greensmilies-010

I've come across a few jobs we're they've failed to fit a petcock and just used a throttled down iso valve until it's just a dribble, don't know why cause it's not an expensive valve or difficult to fit. PB do you not find that strange the arm dropped off as I find the split pins are normally brass? Pleased you enjoyed your yoga and plumbing lesson in that tiny loft.

I wouldn't fit a petcock if they had a cistermiser. If the valve only opens for a minute or so when it senses the pressure imbalance (assuming the cistermiser is working) you'll only get a tiny amount of water through because the petcock will be restricting it to a dribble. I thought you'd fit one or the other, not both.

You should still have both mate as the cistermiser is just a on or off valve that shuts down at off peak times .

They must do different versions then. The type I've fitted has the flow off most of the time, then opens for an adjustable short time when it senses someone in there either by movement sensor or water pressure imbalance.
