Went to a job yesterday & the ex engineer know it all was constantly telling us how to do things. I was fed up by 12 so told him to do one.
He wants me to find a solvent weld to push fit 32mm coupler.
I told him it doesn't exist
I've no idea if it does but I've never heard of solvent weld to push fit. I know you can put solvent weld pipe into push fit but not the other way.
He paid us & we've left the job. We won't be returning unless the day rate is huge
Life's too short

McAlpine multifit couplers will join pushfit to solvent. When I very first started plumbing, fresh out of college I discovered that pushfit 40mm fits snug outside solvent 32mm. I was doing a bath with really bad access and decided to pop the pushfit waste pipe over the smaller solvent pipe and use solvent weld to see if it stuck. The solvent wasn't for setting after about half an hour so I left it overnight and it seemed stuck. Finished fitting the bath and tested and all dry. The job was for a mate who I still speak to. Went back to it last week, it's been dripping for years...

Went back to it last week, it's been dripping for years... tickled me that Joe I told another plumber about it, a guy who I used to work with on bigger jobs like full bathrooms etc. He said it's rough, infact his words were 'It's dogshit' and told me there'd be problems. I thought I'd discovered a gem of a tip, luckily I never joined pipe this way again but there's no way I'm telling him he was right

Here's a pic of the offending 'joint' See the black 1 1/2 pushfit with the 1 1/4 grey solvent going into it. Not good at all. The bog's right up against the bath there, this was taken with my phone in my grips to get near enough to see it. Bog needs to come out so putting it off a bit... Attachment Deleted

its a tight spot ok, I would put a pushfit elbow on the greypipe and bring it towards me then turn the trap 180 degrees making a big loop, waste pipes in tight places is struggleville, Its all under the bath so no ones gonna sea it, then scarper,,

Can't turn the trap 180, guess where the joist just happens to be... That grey pipe is solvent and only inch and a quarter. The external soil from the bog is in the way of it moving anywhere or upgrading to 40mm. The black pipe is inch and a half pushfit so need to connect them with a reducer. Those copper pipes you can see touching the compression nut of the trap stopped me reattaching the waste today there's no movement in them. I was looking for one of these with a reducer on the end Attachment Deletedbut they're only online and can't wait for delivery, so I'm going with crowsfoots suggestion and one of these. www.diy.com/departments/floplast-waste-trap-height-adjustor-dia40mm/152689_BQ.prdIt won't be pretty but it doesn't have to be

That black pipe going into the compression is double threaded, it's not on straight.

That black pipe going into the compression is double threaded, it's not on straight. Took the pic after I undid it from a hole I made in the ceiling underneath the bathroom, can see why you'd think that though;) Ended up binning it off, someone else can bang their head against the wall with this one now. My mum's ill in hospital at the moment so can't be arsed with jobs that are gonna drag me down.
