Ahh right, there's an f&e tank in the loft I assume now that this will be for the aga back boiler. Would that make sense? I thought it might have been for the heating, but thinking about it, the heating is off a big oil fired boiler which I assume now is a closed system like a combi. The plumbing in this house is all a bit prehistoric to me lol.

Its bone dry at the top and mostly around the bottom half. All I've found is a bit of a dribble near the bottom and the lagging was a bit wet at the bottom. Cheers I recently had one with a slight weep on the return pipe on a cyclinder, it was weeping from the flange joint to cylinder, worth a check mate.....

I'll have a proper check over it tomorrow endfeed. I've put some newspaper and a bowl under where I saw the weep now. Thanks for all the help everyone, I think even if it turns out not to be the cylinder i'll replace after Christmas anyway it looks an old one. Castle Cylinders, ever heard of em?

Has it got a heat sink rad off the circuit mate ? Like Tom said the chances of matching the cylinder like for like is very unlikely. I replaced one last year on an aga gravity feed and you shouldn't find to much trouble fitting it, if it has a heat sink rad you may have to rebalance it after install as sometimes this will rob to much heat from the cylinder.
