Yep, they are absolute crappos. I always make my own up now when fitting 1, 1/2 sinks. Had this problem last year when I was fitting a kitchen for a friend. The supplied kit just wouldn't go together the way it was supposed to do. Made my own up in the end. When I looked at the supplied kit afterwards, I realised , whoever had put all the bits in the bag, must have done so at 3 o clock on a Friday as there were two parts exactly the same , that should have been slightly different (going by part numbers)

I love McAlpine products, not just because they’re manufactured here in & around Glasgow. But the company are good to work for, as a worker on the factory floor & as a tradesman working in one of their factories.
I can safely say I’ve never known a leaking McAlpine trap, all these others are shite!! Though when I was a Major Plumbing Contractor, we exclusively used Marley & their traps were OK. Marley Plumbing Systems are good generally.

Got to agree with you there, McAlpine stuff is just good. They don't skimp on quality like most other manufacturers. Expensive compared to floplast or the other budget stuff, but pretty much works first time every time. I fit McAlpine when I can and if budget allows, but also fit some lesser quality brands and usually have to trim the sealing surfaces with a stanley knife to smooth them before I can get a seal, floplast traps are almost always badly formed and usually have little flaps of plastic from bad moulding that need to be removed.

I called in Toolstation last week for a trap, I don't normally get plastic stuff from toolstation but i was passing so gave them a try, Boy they suprised me, I got a basin telescopic trap, it was cheap as chips BUT good quality, like McCalpine, I think they've done a deal with McCalpine because they look like them and are good, unless they gave me one out of the wrong bin, but I'm gonna go back for more, much better than the plasflow what shitfix shuffle out,

Keep me informed Tom if you think they are good.

That's good to know Tom, how was the bit that connects to the basin waste? I usually find that bit flimsy on anything other than McAlpine and worry about it slipping a thread if I tighten it as much as I would if it was McAlpine.
