After a nasty experience with them when I was an apprentice I vowed never to use the buggers ever again. However, today I've really struggled to change a filling loop on an unvented cylinder and felt that if I had a small pair of moles I could lock them onto the valve nut I would then be able to free up both my hands to get a good purchase on the fitting with me crawldad spanner. I've lined these up on e-bay at 4" the size is about right for me to get into those tight airing cupboards. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2PC-MINI-ADJUSTABLE-LOCKING-LONG-NOSE-MOLE-VICE-GRIP-SMALL-PLIERS/321577150545?epid=2185690728&hash=item4adf7de851:g:xDUAAOSwArxZz2u~Can anyone recommend a decent pair of mini moles? Or should I take my own advice from the past and leave well alone? I can almost feel the blood blisters on me fingers all ready!!

I have three pair in the van work vehicle, they defo come in handy at times, mine are vice grips, same as mole grips but american, the differance is the release lever, Mole grips you pull inwards to release, vice grips push outwards, its something to do with the patent rights,
Like tappy I caught the flesh of my hand once, I'm glad it was't my bollocks, smiley-confused002asak2

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. They are very scary...if I bought them I would be forever in fear of ever using them. If the bastards locked onto my fingers I would curse myself forever more. Still it's an idea that I'm currently toying with (I'm such a fool)

I too have caught my hand in mole grips and its a killer, but I find them a very usefull tool.I seem to catch my hand/skin when releasing the grip!!!!so what I do now is get my pump pliers and turn the back screew to slacken its grip and they open nice and safe

I've ordered a pair ! At a huge risk of me becoming incapacitated in the very near future! I'll let you know if they're any good (if I'm still able type, that is )!

They arrived Friday so they took about one week to arrive from Stuttgart Germany. They're a little bit smaller than I thought that they would be, but that could still be a plus in those tight spots. Almost looking forward to my next filling loop change! They don't look any different from the cheaper ones featured in the early part of the thread and at £6.17 plus an hefty p&p charge make them over 3 times the price (so I'd go for the cheap eBay ones with hindsight). They are made in ruddy china too and come with a warning to Californians that substances used in them could cause cancer! Anyway here they are:- They do line up nicely with my mini tools selection though . Attachment Deleted
