yea me too, the older cylinders will take a clout or two, but the 1980's onwards just shear off if your too heavy handed, specially the fortics,

New cylinders are rubbish agreed.
I always drain 6ins water from the top then cut off the insulation from around the heater then it's in with the blow lamp (smoke alarm goes off) douse thread in WD40 then it's on with the spanner and a strong sharp blow with the lump hammer.
All tasks completed on a wing and a prayer of course.
