Question:-
Would there ever be the case that air can escape where water wouldn't upon testing a system for leaks, using that idea for an air test only or would you just advise using that tyre valve connection for a controlled method of pressuring a filled system to identify a leak?

Not tried it yet,but I was thinking with my foot pump with gauge on it, pump it and leave it,if gauge drops then look for leaks....

testing with air has always been done, If your on a big job and several other plumbers have ' had a go' , you might not have the confidence to test with water so air is a good alternative, the main concern is safety, air will compress and any loose fitting or not properly fixed will shoot off at a high pressure and if it hits someone it could kill,
So first test at 2 bar for 10 mins, if that holds go up in stages and make sure there is no one around,

you can't grumble at those for the price Dick. There must be some Scottish blood in me for me to be so tight, You should hear what my missus said about me the time I fixed a egg slicer instead of buying a new one,,It only need a new strand of fuse wire to fix one of the cutting wires, she was going to get a brand new one from poundland,
