Now then, I just watched the video soldering with water & at the end you mentioned brazing.
When I did my college course we did brazing, we heated the pipe up until it was glowing the had a bar of solder.
When do you braze?

I don't, you need oxy acetalene bottles and they are combersome and you need extra insurance, just too much hassle, smiley-sad056 nay

We did a thing at collage called "bronze welding". We made a tee joint out of a copper waste pipe. We all asked why? However, it was in the C&G syllabus back then, so we had to learn it. One of those things that we all knew even back then that we would never do it in our "real life as a plumber". Brazing is sometimes confused with "bronze welding" though. Brazing was something I can remember doing at school which was just heating the metal up till it glows "cherry red" then add the flux followed by the brazing stick and let a small amount of it run into the two metals anyway it chooses. This is what I've always called brazing and you can do it with mapp or even propane gas (that's how I repaired my broken tom's grips ) as long as you can get the metal up to "cherry red" heat. I didn't think that joint was going to run in the video tom (thinking too myself "he's got too much water going through that pipe"). Shows you what a good conductor of heat water is though, all that heat that you gave it and it got nowhere near the "cherry red" needed for brazing. A plumber wouldn't do any brazing in his work though (unless he's fixing tools )!!

Same as CF. We used gas torch & heated the pipe up big time same as you did.

I don't, you need oxy acetalene bottles and they are combersome and you need extra insurance, just too much hassle, As Tom has stated you need Oxy/Acetalene to braze copper. Quite common on commercial & I think the last time I brazed it was >67mm copper tube & fitting. These Silver Solder rods can be used with a MAPP Gas Torch: You can use EF fittings etc, get everything Cherry Red & solder it. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F372188316426Perhaps Tom would do a video showing Silver Soldering?

think I'll pass on that one Dick £50 for silver soldering rods,,tell you a true story though,, bout 20 years ago i working on a university during the summer break down period, there are pipefitters electricians and me on the site, One pipe fitter called Martin was a 'know all' pipefitter/welder from Preston , He knew everything there is to know about everything, What he had't done in his life was't worth doing, He was the best pipefitter/welder in the world, the best skydiver, the best cook, the best driver, the best , the best mountain climber, he knew it all, Well anyrode oneday he's making a 4 inch copper header off the main boiler bank, he's silver soldering 2 inch branches off the header and allways talking about how silver soldering was a piece of piss, " you can't miss with silver soldering" he'd say, then go on to tell the tale of when he welded the main gas line through America, Just him, no one else could weld like him, America wanted him only because the testers knew his welds were better than anyone elses, back to the Uni, and the testing of the new extention, In all the pipework, ironwork, copperwork and plastic soils and wastes, he had more leaks on that copper header than anyone else on the job,, he blamed the flux, he said because of cutbacks they'd given him cheap flux that was't up to scratch,,

How can we be so inadiquit??!!! Bigger bums than two arseholes!! I know there’s only three in a pack, but these are the same rods. They’re not fluxed rods & you don’t use flux on the pipe or fittings. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F122897624077These types of rods & the Rothy ones etc are used by Fridge Engineers. Sorry, if I’ve hi-jacked the thread.
