When you need to drain the cylinder & the drain of opens but nothing comes out. The rubber washer is probably stuck inside but to free it with a screwdriver or the like will cause a fish of water which could flood the house.
So, what do you do?
Cheers all

I would syphon it out Rocky, take the top union off, stick 15mm pushfit pipe in ( this will guarrantee the pipe goes to the base) then run the 15mm to out side and suck it or use one of those syphon starter gadgets to get it going,

Only when I have too and more for boilers, I have a home made tool (which looks similar to this fishing tool) Attachment DeletedWhich I Incert into the valve and screw into the rubber washer (after I've taken the spindle out) I slowly pull it back and let the filthy black water flow as it should via the drain side of the fitting.

I don't do that many boilers/cylinders these days, however, when I did encounter this problem I would always undo the hex (taking it right off) then in with the long nose pliers and pull the jumper/washer assembly out all in one go, then quickly place my finger or thumb over the hole after 5 min's (when the pressures gone down a little) I would then attempt to get the hex back on the drain tap, afterwards mop up whist the cylinder or boiler drains down at full speed (you have to have the hose pipe attached to the drain off spout from the beginning of course).
Bugger to poking things down the spout to try and get it going; hey, I was on a bonus!!
