On the subject of frozen outside taps, has anyone ever seen/installed a frost free tap?

How they work is you install it in the wall so the handle end is slightly lower than the other end. The handle turns a long rod inside the outer tube that goes to the other end, so the washer/jumper and seat are all at the end furthest from the handle. So when the tap is turned off, the water stops at the inside end of the tube, not the handle end that's outside. Then because the tap is at a slight angle, any water in the tube runs out when turned off, and won't freeze the tap. They come in different lengths for different wall thicknesses.

Not cheap, but cheaper than having to re-new taps that get frozen.
