Nearly all my radiators are colder at the bottom and believe this is sludge. Can I drain them without removing them one by one? I would like to do it by myself so any tips are welcome. Cheers.

Draining them won’t remove the sludge.
They need to be put on a machine & have chemicals pumped through them while they are subjected to a beating with the hammer drill & an attachment. Even this process may not work.
The only way to guarantee no sludge is new rads.
Some people take the rags off & put them on a hose in the garden. This would be the easiest & most cost effective way for you to try & fix them yourself. You may notice a difference or may not.
Cheers

hello hello andrede8 is't that a picture of the bath springs in your avatar, Yes rocketmans right , your rads are sludged up, the best method to clear them is to take each one off and take them outside and flush them with a hose pipe, Its a very messy job and could end up in disaster, it only takes a few drops of the black gundge to mess up a carpet, A power flush might work but its costly. starting around £300 with no guarrantees,

It is indeed the Bath Springs. I thought that might get your attention. Ive decided Im going to take off the rads individually and flush them outside using a washing machine hose connected to my outside tap. I saw you do similar in one of your videos. Im gonna do the first one tomorrow as its cowd in ere. Is there any need to turn off the water completely or should the taps either side of the rad do the job? Is there any reason why one of my rads is colder than the rest? Like its the last in line maybe? Or its a later addition to the system? Ive tried turning off nearly all the others to isolate it but it didnt seem to make much difference, I thought it would make it piping hot! Cheers. David from Stubshie.

Do you know how to refill the system? If so, you can drain down. If you trust your rad valves then you can do a rad at a time. Remember to bleed rad after you’ve turned valves off to take the pressure off. Good luck Let us know how you get on

hello David from stubshie X,,are they thermastic rad valves, if so be carefull, sometimes they never shut down proper and they can open if its cold, So if you take a rad off and leave the valves shut and its ok, then while you're rinsing the rad out, the thermastic valve can open by itelf and WHOOOOOSH, you're in the shit, since you're local I can call and advise you better if i call in while I'm coming past sometime, you can PM me, email or text/phone me 07855641246,

You’ve got gas in, mains water in, flow & return to rads & domestic hot flow.
