Has anyone fitted one?
I've spent hours and hours over the past week wasting a lot of time reading the manufacturer websites. I'm now certain I know less about them than when I started and the glossy websites really make it difficult to find out what it is you want to know. Something as seemingly simple as will this thing work with my low pressure water? Takes ages to find out that many/most of them come from our European "friends" where they assume high pressure.
Seems that Geberit is the only one that states they'll accept a min of 0.1 bar and since my water tank is about 2-3M above the bog I figure that will do me. _However_ I then start looking at what frames they have and there are millions of them and all divided into 4 categories (sigma, kappa, delta and some other one). I can't for the life of me understand what it is that separates the frames in these categories. Because I'm a dafty, I'll no doubt find out after I've paid for the bloody thing that it isn't the one I want for some reason or another.
Also the prices seem all over the place. I mean not just expensive (I suppose for what they do some are not bad all in) but just completely random as to why some frames cost more than others. Worse, is the money spinning "flush plates" which for some of their ranges are just about not too bad but for others are eye watering - like a £100 for a flush button which is often plastic.
I just want one that is about 1M high because its under a window, low pressure and finding it very, very hard to figure out which one of even make to go for. The geberit kappa (only one) looks maybe ok except at 82cm a bit small. Their Omega 98cm looks to be about right but the flush plates are stupid money.

thats the problem reading brochures, they tell you how good their product is, they never tell you the problems, The obvious problem is the surface you are fixing to and how does the support frame fix in, The best way is to see a fitted one in a showroom, Never take the word of a salesperson, I can tell when they are liars, Its easy to spot when they lie, because their mouth is moving, every time it moves a lie comes out,

I think. Incidently I _think_ their frame is a rebranded geberit but definitely could be wrong.

He’s only in it to line his own pockets, their stuff is shite!! Get a Dermit Mcdee one, change the water supply to mains & ensure it’s bolted to the wall correctly. That’s the most important bit, cause if some big fat biffer sits on, the whole fucking lot could land on the floor!!

I did say "I think" but you could be right in that he doesn't make it clear upfront he's working for those companies. I could get a mains feed there with quite a lot of work but the other bog in the house is gravity and works ok. Not like we have a queue at the door waiting for it to refill. I read about the Dermit one too late and shows you "wet behind the ears" I am I'd not heard of that company. Will definitely consider them next time I need something.

Well it arrived today. I'm actually impressed by it. The Swiss know about detail and even though a fair amount is plastic, there is steel, brass and rubber where it matters (not that a dafty would know that!). Anyway, one interesting thing I think is how they sell it. You get virtually everything - frame, cistern, different 110mm ringseal choices, lots of seperate packs of heavy duty fittings etc for about £150. (Another ton if you don't buy off ebay which I did this time and think I've done quite well.) But my point is Geberit then sell the "flush plate" for _another_ hundred quid!!!!! Unbelievable considering its just a piece of plastic - but of course you can't go and buy one in screwfix or cityplumbing. Again I thought myself lucky getting it for £35 but still a little bit of plastic for £35? In fact, when you look into Geberit there whole product line seems to be based on the fking flush plate. Go for Omega like I did because I wanted a 98cm height and they'll charge u over £100 for the plastic push buttons. The slightly more common sigma range has more flush plates and down to £30 (that's rrp so no doubt you could get for a lot less). Still, its a lovely set of engineering and I'm really looking forward to putting it together. Last time (maybe 5 years ago) when we had some polish "plumbers" they just lashed the whole lot up to escape and get their cash. I'll be giving it a lot of luuuv (but being a dafty I'll probably fuck it up somewhere along the way....

thats the key dafty, not rushing, think it through and don't cut anything until you've worked out where its for and what it does, if you're not sure, leave it, sometimes it takes a while to sink in, I'm sure you'll work it out,,

So I got the Geberit Omega since it was the only one that accepts low pressure refill (I think all the Geberits do) but also this one was 98cm tall so the right height for under the window. I paid £160 from Ebay and another £37 for the bit of plastic flush plate also off Ebay. I've checked with the instructions (there isn't a list but just by mentally going through it) that everything is present, correct, bagged and boxed how it should be and it seems to be so I think I've done not too bad. We'll see when I fuck it up on the wall Its swiss made and I think they're generally good with lhow fiddly bits play together (watches etc). Even though a fair bit is plastic as you'd expect it seems quite good - even in places. The frame itself and the bolts seem very heavy duty. The seals on the ring seal stuff are much softer than the likes of floplast and even mcalpine - not sure if its good or bad but will tell you later when it leaks I'm obviously nowhere near a plumber so if a future DIYer reads this, take my views with a pinch of salt. One thing I don't like so far, is that all the instructions are ikea-style. There is no text at all. I bet the ones going to switzerland or germany have better. So as Tom says, I am going to take it very slow to increase the chances of getting it right. Done nothing so far though due to a bastard tooth abscess. Edit: Dunno what that professor icon thing is about and can't get rid of it ! Edit2: Oh yeah - its coz I used the word "cle ver"
