Hey Up
Are Lass as been on to me to change the TRV,s and Lockshields on all the rads up stairs cos she dont like em. anyway ive eventually given in and been down to screw fix I just used boss white on the first Tail but it didnt have much resistance going in so on the rest i give a few wraps of PTFE then a smear of Boss White on top .. no leaks so far but was wondering what the pros did.

i use ptfe as well, I don't know how many turns I use, then a bit of boss white to be sure to be sure,  |

Typically ten turns or less with smear of Boss White is my approach to rad tails.

I get to 13 and think,13 is unlucky and do one or two more😂 and a dob of paste! Nothing worse than filling up and seeing it weeping from the tail😱

I don't fit many rads these days, but when I did it was always a smear on the thread inside the rad with boss white then wrap ptfe around the tail 6 or 7 times (you didn't want any leaks on those old CH install prices).

I used to use 13 wraps of PTFE, then came across a rad that weeped on that, so upped it to 18 and it still weeped, so upped it to 22 and that was good.
Now I use 22 on all tails and not had a weep yet.
PTFE is cheap, leaks aren't.

Reminded me back in the days of hemp and boss white there PB. A really funny plumber called Larry would put the whole knot of hemp on his head imitating a blonde wig then act like a drag queen singing "I'm in the mood for love"  . We all wondered about Larry  - funny guy though |

there was always 2 things i could quarrantee would happen on a steel pipe screwing job, A guy would put the hemp on his head and do woman impersonation and someone else would say as the screwing machine was stopping, " I would not like to get my dick stuck in that fucker" |
