To be honest Tom they are just like any other system set up in regards to lay out, the trouble with these is they take forever to warm up from scratch. Keep things basic and simple I say.

PB - What's that system running, UFH or conventional heating and what type of boiler or is it ground source heat pump?

Looks to be a large unit that one PB, commercial premises?
If it's been switched off they'll take forever to warm up, especially in this cold weather - some even have a frustrating time lag on them; why? I've waited up to 40 ruddy minutes for the things to kick in after putting out a heat call.
What was up with it PB?

What was up with it PB? Big house tappy and you are right there is a hell of a lag on them to heat up, soooo slow ! This is a rented house and the email I got from the owner was just a towel radiator not warming up. The tenant then tells me sometimes the towel rads come on and some times not but one in particular never comes on. It was just the zone valve at fault for the circuit, it would open and sometimes signal out and sometimes not. The rad not working was the rad valve headgear stuck like you get on the headgear of some taps, it turns very slightly and no more.

I know one lad who fixes those type of units full time and spends a lot of time driving about to tell people they aren't capable of meeting their heating demands!

Sounds like typical tree hugger stuff. Great in theory, but different matter in practice. Bit like the energy saving light bulbs that take ages to come on properly, don't light the room and give you headaches.
Stayed at a rented cottage for a week a few Christmases ago in the depths of Devon to escape the Bristol festive madness. Enjoying the peace of the country - until the bloody ground source heating kicked in. The plant that ran it all could be heard throughout the cottage. So loud I could barely hear the Mrs nagging. And it didn't really heat the place that well either.

He says every customer who has one installed suffers from anxiety issues, due to the systems inefficiency to heat the place or the time it takes to have it repaired - he calls himself the mental health plumber as he has to put their mind at easy!

Some new builds in certain areas it's part of the planning permission to have them.

One lady had some kind of nervous breakdown over one once whilst I was actually there!! With the right type of person though you could save a bit of cash - but you've got to be actually spending it first on (other forms of) heating in order to save it.

My Son in Canada is delberating whether its the way to go, They spend shit loads on wood and electric for heating from October to March, The salemen for these are quick to point out the potential savings but as the installation is about £10,000 they are giving it a good dose of thinking and asking about from those already using them,
