Has anyone ever cut basin waste threads to shorten the length of it so a drawer will open and close and not bump into the trap. Or do you leave it alone and take a chunk out of the back of the drawer to allow space for the trap?

Not something I've ever done. You would have to get a very clean, straight and level cut which may be difficult with a hack saw. Maybe if you had a power saw of some kind with clamps to hold waste it could be done. Unless the edge was perfect it may leak, but maybe PTFE on the thread or LSX could fill any slight imperfections. If the waste was made of brass, wouldn't be too difficult to cut, but some are stainless I believe, eg. McAlpine wastes. This would be tough to cut.
If it was me and there was the option of altering the drawer, that would be my first choice.

Yeah. Might just notch the drawer at the back.

I've cut basin waste threads down but only to achieve the shelf height increase to suit the customers needs.

Follow the thread round with your hacksaw going just past the 360 mark Then break it off and then file the waste at a steep angle so it's all level(ish).

Will do this if I can't get my hands on Sir Richards gadget! (Now, sorry, that just sounds like a Carry on joke)
