Its a shame I can't come to the brewcabin for all trades - maybe one day? In the meantime for roofing stuff I have been asking the guys here. But is it me or is there some kind of "trade snobbery" going on - that is if you aren't a roofer etc you won't get any decent info. They should change their name to "NoDiyersAllowed" or "donuts" or something. www.diynot.com/diy/threads/hanging-tiles-butt-brick-wall.524455This what I described in the donuts thread had been in place for 30 years with no flashing and no leaks (its in a very sheltered position) but now I have to buy half a ton of lead and do something I don't understand with it? I bought a cheap flashroll which I'll stick on the bricks - surely that's better than the nothing what was before? Suspect even though there might not be full on roofers here, I reckon most folk here would probably know a lot more than me about something like this so always grateful for thoughts/advice.

I would grind out the joint 1 brick above where the roof meets the wall, roll out 1.5 meters of 12 inch code 4 lead, bed up 5 inches, turn 3/4 of and inch into the ground out joint and dress it on to the tiles, do it in 1.5 meters to alow for lead creep. lead moves,

I didn't know that Tom. Great to know ! My question was this: The thing is I don't need a rolls royce job it was originally a lashup (previous owner) and what was there before was literally nothing. I've added a pic which hopefully explains better - tiles at the back and wall on left. I've now bought some flashstrip roll so thinking using that would be better at least than what was before (nothing) ? Outside, there is a 90 degree internal corner. Brick wall on one side and hanging tiles over stud wall on the other.
I took the tiles off some time ago (planners like bats too much....) and now putting them back.
My question is where the tiles meet the brick wall in the corner what is there to stop rain getting in? Or what should there be? I'm pretty sure when I took them off they just met the brick wall with about a 5mm gap and underlay behind.
I'm wondering whether to point them in with mortar or use some mastic or do nothing as they were previously?

Yes the brick wall on the left with window meeting the tiled wall also with window.
BUT there was never any flashing of any kind there.

Hang on I think I know what you mean. Yes there is a lead flashing fitted where that wall meets the roof on the right. I'm wondering/worrying about where it meets the brick wall vertically on the left of the pic. Edit: Thanks a lot for your time by the way ! Edit2: Pic showing tiled wall meeting brick wall. ah I see what you mean, you need to grind out each joint up the wall about 4 inches and do a stepped flashing, individual flash steps over lapping each other, starting at the bottom, It easier to explain in a video, I'll do one for you,

Mind I've worked on ones much like yours DD and when you remove the tiles they have zinc soakers between the horizontal battens and the underlay in the corners which allows the protection and no external protection is shown external of the hanging tiles. much like in item 36 in here www.dreadnought-tiles.co.uk/res/vertical%20tiling%20guide1.pdf

That is absolutely brilliant ! I'll add to that donuts thread and point people to your video.
Compare the quality of that answer compared to the seriously unhelpful response I got over there.
Edit: And thanks also to Battle for providing the detail of how the lead goes under hanging tiles. Combined with Tom's superb explanation, you'd have to be a dafty more daft than me not to understand.
