Removed loads of rotten Lead Soil & Waste pipes from external walls, the mortar corrodes it. It was always a very light gauge Lead pipe & formed bends made it even thinner. Most County Councils here in Jockoland would not permit Lead Soil/waste pipes in walls, always Cast Iron.

I'm remembering a firm that I worked for once won a contract to renew the bathrooms on a council estate (early 80s). The toilets we're very odd, they were syphonic with an horizontal outlet right at the bottom of the pan which almost rested on the floorboards, the angle being totally wrong for the p trap pan which we were going to fit.
It was a cast iron soil pipe with the toilet branch done in lead. We had a problem. Anyway, the charge hand came up with the idea of chopping out the bricks above going right into the cavity so we could alter he angle of the lead soil pipe in the cavity to match the rake on the new wc pan. It worked a treat in every case. I've never seen these syphonic toilets before or afterwards (real oddballs they were).
