a friend bought a house asked me to do a couple of diy bits for her. I noticed the central heating has been done in 15mm copper pipe for both the flow and return. and only a foot of 22mm pipe been used under boiler. The property is a through terraced house with 8 radiators on 4 floors. Its a combi sytem. Is this correct? Many thanks

I agree, 15mm is too small for that amount of rads,

It really depends on several factors, the Flow temperature, the Head & the Delta T of the system. All of which will really determines its worth. Id ascertain these perimeters before passing judgement on it’s suitability👍👍👍

the proof of the pudding is in the heating, I think with the temperature dropping rapidly towards Winter, she will feel the need to upgrade the pipes, Don't forget once the cold weather hits every plumber and his dog are bizzier than a one handed wall paperer on a bank holiday, So if you are thinking of upgrading, do it now,

To ask a Daft question, how would you know its all 15mm? I mean if she's living there, wouldn't the floorboards be in place so you wouldn't get to see?

AJ said in his opening post, " and only a foot of 22mm pipe" has been used under the boiler, It may well be in 22mm under the floor that AJ cannot see but, it will make little differance because the 15mm between is acting like a throttled down valve,
