Hello All I'm getting closer to starting the plumbing for the kitchen I've been working on..... They'll be a double sink and dishwasher next to it. Should I be looking at putting in a pipe upstand above a trap in the sink cupboard like this: www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-standpipe-appliance-trap-white-40mm/94360Or would I be better off with a connection into the sink trap? Since its in my house I'd rather spend a little extra and get good quality maybe McAlpine? - its also on the first floor so leaks would be bad.

depends on situation dafty, a stand pipe at the back of the washer will not allow your washer to go fully back to the wall, so thats why a modern kitchen will use use a washer waste to the sink trap, if you have the room go stand pipe, if not go sink waste, McCapline are quality, no one will argue that but, a cheap one will do the same job, is just a bit more fiddly with the washers,

Thanks a lot Tom. The upstand would be in the sink cabinet so not behind the dishwasher. Looks like I should go down the upstand route then?

A standpipe is always best in my view. But there’s always limitations space wise under sinks. McAlpine is the best. Shop around Dafty, try your local Plumbers’ Merchants for a price. Screwfix can be a right rip-off!!!

Yeah the standpipe will avoid the gurgling and possibility of smells.

So kitchen sink cabinet is in its place with a double socket for dishwasher next door and for PB's recommended pump that I'll probably use for HW. I've got both washing machine and dishwasher wastes routed to the cabinet and I think there is room for any option but obviously I want to maximise space in the cabinet. If I'm going down the standpipe route, do I just fit one standpipe and then one of these: mcalpineplumbing.com/traps/domestic-appliance-traps-accessories/v33wm-twin-connector? Also could I get any of the pipework behind the cabinet which has a gap of 45mm? The main 40mm waste runs length ways (parallel to the wall) behind the cabinet.

Are you going to first fix before that cupboard is permanent ?

If you’re going to have a sink unit there I think you know the sink needs a waste fitting. Also, for the standpipe from washing machine the waste pipe will just drop down into it. The washing machine should come with a fitting. The spigot won’t be needed unless you’re plumbing say the dishwasher waste into the sink waste if that makes sense.

Yes main waste pipe is not first fixed yet and cabinets are not yet fixed in - I'm just planning the route.
So in total that is: 1x waste+trap from sink 2 x flexi waste from dishwasher & washing machine
So main question is what to do about those 2x flexi wastes. Do I need 2 standpipes? Quite a lot of room
Also how many connections into the main waste pipe which will run on the floor at the back and will the tees fit behind the cupboard?

RIght thats it then. Standpipes in a perfect world but world ain't perfect so I'll be fitting the mcalpine appliance trap!
Not sure if I dare, but might add a pic to the confessional box once done (in the summer at my "speedy" rate of working)
