Finally got around to this job at the "mother in laws" a left over from last weeks deep freeze. I thought that the brew cabiners might like a look at it.

Tappy's Tips - thats a good one !
Nice to watch and one question - why did you use compression for the elbow? No problem with it being accessible but was it because you had trouble with water in the pipes? And how did you dry the pipes that you did solder ?

It was the last bit that I connected up dd and the compression was because I simply didn't want to get me blow lamp out again! I drained down from the bathroom radiator, taking the air plug out and putting a drain tap in it's place. I got a decent drain down and because the AS is at an high point in the system there was no surplus water present in the pipes when I soldered them up.

Tappy thank you for posting your video up as I like those that fix/repair rather than renew and replace.
Now it might be you have different water hardness down there but our gunge up here is always as black as coal your's looked rusty brown.
I suspect very little system inhibitor has been added in the systems life and that the instal is about twenty five years old?
Additionally, any reason you didn't fit a Magnaclean filter to catch the smaller granular bits which will collect on an elbow in the same area?

I'd estimate 35 years since it's installation date battle and it's in a soft water area. It's a free job in council owned property, hence, I wasn't going to fit any fancy filters. The council are like BG and want to rip everything out and fit a modern combi system. However, the old gal is in poor health and in her 80s and couldn't cope with all the upset of a new install so I'm hoping the job will now last long enough to see her out (in another 35 years time no doubt ). Glad you all like the video (it's always interesting seeing someone else's actual real life plumbing jobs)

Thanks, Tappy for an interesting video of real plumbing. What pump was that? Wilo? Didn't look like one of the new tree-hugger types.

Did the system fill up ok? No air locks?I find if it's a job for family or friends, then sods law seems to creep in😁 out of curiosity, what made you go for the "H" rather than swooping the air separator?

Woody, I must have had that pump in my garage for 15 years, in fact it was given to me by a retired plumber who realised that he was never going to use up all his aquired collection of plumbing items up in his lifetime left. I'm almost in the same position myself now . EF, 100% I agree with you about things going wrong when you work for relations and I was thinking this before deciding to only drain the bit that I needed too via the bathroom radiator or I could've used the pump valve along with a cup and bucket method. I reckon the air separator was a feature on the first fully pumped systems say late 70s to mid 80s after that we realised that they mainly worked fine without them and started to H them NB. If it had had a very low head of water (say12") then I would have felt the need to fit an air separator. Cheers all Tappy,
