Thought I'd pay a little more and get a made in Britain bath. Now before I install it I looked at the hole where they'd obviously created a flat to seal up against but as you can see its very small at the bottom and slightly pitted. Will I be ok with this when the time comes to put the waste on? I think I could return it now as its not been fitted although god knows how I'd take it to the post office... Attachments:

That is a very poor finish dafty, silicone will sort the problem but personally I'd send it back.

don't worry Dafty the thick rubber washer on a bath waste with cope with that, although it looks uneven, the hole bit where the seal goes, is OK

In my opinion it will, although I do agree the landing area is dimensionally lacking substance.
Now you could send them an email saying your happy to go ahead but require their confirmation that they approve the install as leakage will require reimbursement, see what their reply brings.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Not sure what to do....
I'll contact them and see what they say.
In the very worst case and I don't want to wait weeks for them to mess around is it very likely to seal with the washer and silicone? I see that the hole itself is a perfect circle but isn't the seal done just outside the hole ?

You want a nice flat surface for it to seal dafty and in your photo the bottom part is not a lot of surface to play with. It's a shite finish - bottom line !

Manufacturer: Trojan Baths Shop: Bathroom Supastore
Hi
The bath arrived on Feb 4 and there was no transport damage at all. It looked great. It has not been installed nor screwed into or modified in any way and all fixings are present. The cardboard packaging has been ripped up but the thin film around the bath hasn't been touched.
However, when it was to be installed today we noticed that the rim around the waste hole is flat and fine most of the way round but at the bottom is extremely narrow (see photo). Two plumbers I know who have seen this believe it is a manufacturing fault as it will be extremely difficult to seal against.
Could I suggest you share the picture with Trojan? If they or you give permission for us to go ahead and install we will but if the plumber can't stop it from leaking "we" would then need to pay for a second install.
The other option I can think of would be for you just to swap it out which would be fine but only if you could do it afternoons or evenings.
Its caused a great deal of stress today but I am happy to work with you for a pragmatic solution.
Kind regards

From what's been written it does sound like it would seal up even though its obviously a long way from perfect. Even pb the most dismissive about the quality said it would seal with silicone so it should. And most importantly of course TOM SAID it would !
So that is my peace of mind but I have sent that email above and lets see what they say. Why do these fkers send this out of their factory if they know there is an issue??
P.S. My Mira waste that came with their shower (a big brass thing) comes with no less than three washers ! I assume one goes on top and the 2 others below? Should I post a pic of it ?

Right well obvisouly no reply from them yet (if ever) but I need to get on and can't wait weeks - they probably know that and I'll get them via paypal case later. I say "they" I think its one bloke drop-shipping so he never even buys the items.
Anyway, despite it being sub-standard most/all of you said it should seal despite that so I'm going with that. At least unlike a shower tray you can get to it once installed? Now gonna be on edge till I get it in.
I presume I should use silicone above and below the bath and using more rather than less is better as I can wipe it off. Any other tips?
