just for the benefit of others, I never use sillycunt on rubber, it lubricates the rubber and the rubber shoots out of position, IMHO, that hole will seal with the normal waste kit provided, All the uneven business is just the reinforcement ( usually wood) so the bath don't bent when Billy Bunter gets in it, The fact that its thick, is testament to the quality of the manufacturer,

Well, I was too quick to have a go a "Bathroom Supastore [with one part-time employee]" . I got a reply just now:
Good service and I do remember when chosing this bath is thicker acrylic than the really cheap ones from china. Anyway, I've decided NOT to sand down just now because I might make it worse (e.g. sand slightly off square). As far as I can see they've basically admitted to a manufacturing fault (sanding is part of the manufacturer).
I'm going to put all my faith into Tom's advice and do it dry without silicone - plumbers mait if its not holding square but I think it does. Seems like there are pleanty of options even if that doesn't do it but I have a lot of confidence in Tom - I think it will seal like that and if it doesn't its down to my poor workmanship not his sound advice.
So I'll be working "top speed" and should update in a few weeks when its plumbed in......
Good afternoon,
Thank you for getting in touch with us. We've been in touch with Trojan regarding your issue so that we could get their advice. They have told us this:
"The installer could try to sand the area down to smooth off the surface and make more even, there is no issue with the bath when been sanded in production it looks like one side has been sanded more than the other.
Once the area is sanded down there should be no issue fitting and sealing the waste."
If we can help you with anything else please feel free to get back in touch.

Well I'm a lot more confident now many thanks to all.
Just for the heck of it I thought I'd take some fine grit sand paper over a block and just very lightly sand it. I was surprised to see the flat increasing in size. I didn't push my luck and stopped.
Since Tom is a legend in the plumbing industry I would always take his word first - vaccine or not ! However, pb has helped me in the past and I know he is also a very experienced plumber which made it difficult. What sealed it (if you'll excuse the pun) is that even pb said it would seal and forcing the issue with Trojan baths would be a nightmare I don't need. They've already admitted it was a manufacturing fault (as sanding is obvisouly part of their manufacturing process) so I've got my evidence right there if I could be bothered to take it to a small claims court. Touch wood I won't need to.
Oh the other thing is the rubber from the top part of the waste goes right through the hole so the seal as Tom says isn't against the bath but with the top part of the waste.

Bath in a bedroom
I wanted to test it so rigged it up in a bedroom. First time it leaked. The rubber seemed to somehow get in the way or not be seated right which was preventing me from tightening it so I used the second rubber and was very careful and slow to tighten up keeping the rubber central. The instructrions say to use a gasket top and bottom but they supply 3 (FFS !!)
No silicone, no plumbers mait and no leaks! Tom wins the prize as it is what he predicted.
I used two full buckets of water and had the bath tipped towards the drain so probably had about 20cm of water above the plug.
Do you reckon if it hasn't leaked like that then it really shouldn't leak when its full ? I guess since I've got it leak free "dry" then I've still got the silicone trick in my back pocket should I need it.
P.S. Next leak was at the overflow flexy. I removed and cut out the last dregs of lsx I had. Seemed to fix it.
