no mate, the hard bit is saying no to everyone who calls up for work needing doing, You can't begin to understand why, its hard to say, " sorry I'm retired " , so then they say " do you know anyone who can help, I'm desperate ", so the next stage is, " what do you need doing" and your already getting sucked in, Even today I went out changing some sink taps, I thought. 'piece of piss, guess what ? I struggled my bollocks off, it was a bastard, I came away saying to my self, " right that fucking it, never again and I realy realy realy mean it now, " and I've been saying that since 2017,

Anyone want to pop round and change a couple of bedrooms to bathroom? It'll not take long.... Edit: I got a better one: "Could you just move the toilet a few feet on to the other wall?"

well the better one would be a defo,, sorry mate no chance because its out the , ' in and out in half an hour' bracket, its the easy jobs that get you, Today was a kitchen sink tap, I'd never seen it but, I had a vision in my head, she sent me a picture, i could see the iso valves and flexi pipes and i thought, yea, I'll be in and out in half an hour and its just half a mile away, So I arrived 11 am as arranged, quick chit chat then , on it I went, valves siezed, the tap was on the dividing board twix the sink and washing machine, I had to get the washing machine out and it was fitted before the cushioned floor and there was no headroom, the nighmare was opening up and getting worse by the second, That is when you either walk out or, dig deep, I'm not one for walking out so then you have to dig deep into your resolve and think, this is not football, this is plumbing and there is only one winner and, that is me,, and yes I won, the tap eventually got changed, then you get that feeling again of, don't mess with the best, cos you'll get fucked like the rest, and that is why, its hard to say no,..

Yes, spotted that and thought it unfair to be reminding us pub-goers of what we can't have.
Reading the stories above confirms what I always say about plumbing - "every job's a bastard." Well, nearly always. The ones that go like a dream are thin on the ground. Usually turning up to a house with a crusty old vented system that hasn't been looked at for 20 years. Everything you touch is either seized or leaks, and the water is like sump oil.
Why do we keep doing it?

I reckon it'll be a good idea for me to give away my tools next year when I retire. I think it's the only way it'll stop me doing an Horace!
Horace was a plumber who retired when I was in my mid-twenties. He was a real nice bloke who knew a lot of rich gentlemen but couldn't say no to them and he died in the bathroom of one of them after just a year of retirement!
NB. Nice job ef, did you have to timber frame it first? Looks very clean and tidy
