Where did you find it? Whatever it is, it looks homemade. Those are just regular spring toggle fixings

It looks like part of a copper waste system.
We used ‘Clyde’ copper waste pipe & fittings on some high spec jobs in the early 70’s.

I've seen something similar retro fitted as a pocket for an add on thermostat on a primatic cylinder installation on an old install but with a Kingfisher freestanding boiler.

Thanks for your replys bit more info and the reason I'm asking its off a sink installed in a change room where i work, the sink is a back outlet type and it goes between the outlet and the trap reason i ask is I've no idea what to call it when i have to order 5 at our stores, i don't think the fittings are correct either, i think its been a bodge job to get it away this is the type of sink Attachment Deleted

Dick wins again with his close guess, I've never seen a sink like that either, it has a urinal type outlet, I'd be looking for a, ' back entry outlet ' fitting and, you might get arrested for asking for that in the wrong place,

good point Dick, another often miss use of terms is Tanks, a tank is a War machine, the water vessels in a house are cisterns CWSC ( cold water storage cistern), the hot water storage is a cylinder and the toilet is WC , ( water closet), I had a phone call a few years ago from an Asian who said, " come quick please, the water barrel is leaking bad," I went and he was meaning the hot water cylinder, It had imploded on a freezing cold day, He was a very unhappy injun when I explained the price,,,

By nature Asians get a 'percentage' added on because, they will haggle after the job is done, insisting that its their last money and have no more, then when you demand the money they owe they try other tactics like, having to go to a friend to borrow and even more delaying tactics, if you've not priced for the extra time, you have lost, So yea, I put extra on, they can always say no,

Absolutely shocking behaviour. If that's what you were seeing I don't blame you. I might and I might not haggle up front. For someone coming round to my house and quoting I'd be very, very reluctant to haggle up front because even if they agreed you'd be cutting their margin which would reflect on the job. If I felt someone was ripping me off, I'd get another quote. I would never, ever, ever go back on my word of agreement for a service once the price is agreed. It would be illegal for one (verbal agreement is enforceable in law if its proven) but mostly its a matter of honour and integrity.

A couple of things that I remember from my tutor (Mr Garfield) at collage over 40 years ago.
Difference between a Cistern and a Tank = If it's got a lid on then it's a cistern, without a lid it's a Tank.
Difference between a Tap and a Cock = A 1/4" turn between on/off then it's a Cock, anymore turn then it's a tap.
Anyone ever heard of these before (I know that I hadn't before or after)?

Under a Combi, it’s a Gas Cock, but an ISO Valve, both 1/4 turn. In fact all iso valves are 1/4 turn!! Thing that sticks in my head(apart from basin), Metric TUBE & Imperial PIPE. Metric is measured OD & Imperial ID. So when it’s OD it’s a Tube.
