Oh, you’re tiling!! You should’ve used cement based board & not Plasterboard Dafty. But hey, with over Bath showers, most of the water lands in the Bath. Nice Bath, you’ll able to bang your Husband’s Head off the side when you’re shagging him in it👍👍👍 No that would be the wife. We're quite normal in these parts.... Cement board? Use it the floor but too expensive for the walls. Tanking plasterboard is fine - its not exactly a wetroom. P.S. I think there are better choices these days for boards than hardiebacker. I stick with plasterboard as can be tanked.

Well I’ve seen too many leaking Wet Rooms to trust ‘tanking’. A fortune in porcelain tiles ripped out!!! I’d never use anything but cement based board mate for tiling showers or over Baths. But hey, each to their own!! Oh Pleased you’re not a Fudge Packer, I thought you were gay?!!!

I think all these steps just increase the life of the shower but most want a shower ripped out as soon as its aged 10 years in any case. What do they use in your new builds? As for costs, you can get decent porelain for less than £10 psm. The board costs more than that ! And then there is the cement to fix them with which also is a rip-off.

Not all National Builders use it, but quite a few fit cement based board to all shower walls. The one I’m on at the minute don’t fit plasterboard. I’ll get some photos👍

For those that continue to use plasterboard do any not tank at all I wonder - maybe just use the green board and be done with it ? As for cement board, I always thought it would never crumble away like PB but it can let water through hence the rise of boards like wedi, marmox, nomoreply etc and dare I say "elements" board which Bisby flogs.

The Builders using only Plasterboard are using moisture resistant, no tanking. Tiling grout joints are not waterproof, most tiling problems are caused by the porous grout.
’Riser’ shower trays & the boards fits inside the tray.

Do you have to tank cement based boards? I'll tell you what I know then someone will come along and put me right haha. In the old days I think you would not both to tank it because the material itself won't crumble into much like PB would. You might prime it with SBR but hardie and aquapanel have a smooth surface that doesn't need priming. BUT just like a cheese grater also wouldn't disintegrate if you put it in the dishwasher it obvisouly lets the water through. So I _think_ if you wanted to be ultra safe you'd tank it. Next time I do this I'll want to look at the newer boards if they are cheap enough. www.wickes.co.uk/STS-Professional-Tile-Backer-Board-1200-x-600-x-10mm/p/101131This one looked interesting to me as made by the same company that makes NoMorePly. Might be crap though.

Do you have to tank cement based boards? I’ve never Tanked it AJ. Wet Rooms are great in houses with concrete floors & concrete/brick walls. Absolutely useless on anything Timber!! It’s common sense, wood moves. It expands & contracts. Tanking & Wet Rooms in British Houses is a pile of shite!! I’ve fitted loads of showers with cement based board. 3 in Puller Towers, with little maintenance or mould, it’s the ballocks👍👍👍
