I fitted a new sink waste for someone probably just after Christmas I think.
They messaged me earlier saying the pipe is loose & leaking.
I went to look, one pipe has come out. 40mm compression under sink & the pipe was out so no wonder it’s leaking. The nut was tight & washer was there.
I’ve put it back together, tightened & tested & no leaks.
I’ve never had it before.
Any suggestions?
Do some pipe grip better than others then?
It’s a strange one. I trust the custards 100% when they say they haven’t touched it.
Cheers all

I’ve not put any silicone or anything on it. If it goes again I’ll put a bit longer pipe in then. It’s very strange. I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Cheers

Was it a vertical connection Rocky? the weight of the trap and stuff can drag down and pull off the basket strainer.

There's a lot of joints to tighten up under these double sink drainers and if one lengths a bit on the short side you can easily pull it out (not noticed) a bit on one side whilst tightening up one of the other joints?

Its annoying, last year I got the call Saturday night that a bath I fitted 5 years ago was leaking through into the kitchen after a bath, I thought WTF so I went round Sunday morning to find the Mcalpine clicker bath waste (not the waste/trap combi one) had undone itself on the spindle a few turns and I know for a fact it was tight in 2015.
Not slagging of Mcalpine but its just one of those things.

I'm remembering once going to a leaky bath and the combi waste had unscrewed itself (so I thought) I quickly tightened it back up and fixed the leak but noticed the waste was now blocked....................................... It turns out the custard had slackened off the combi waste himself which in turn had fixed his blocked bath waste problem....... at the expense of the waste now emptying directly onto the wooden bath floor beneath !! You couldn't make it up!!

The worst I heard, on one of the forums I think. A bungalow had started to get damp walls all around the house so a guy came in to inspect what was going on and he lifted a floorboard to be shocked to see his own reflection in about a foot of standing water. It turns out the 40mm pushfit elbow had popped out god knows when under the floor and every drop of water down the bath (and maybe the basin) was going pouring under the house.
