Was hoping a good couple of blobs of normal strength silicone (so it can be removed) would be ok but there are 2 holes to screw. Obvisouly I'll screw the pan.

Thanks Rocky you're right. After the sheer pain with the bath I started lowering my standards. I should keep my chin up and do it properly and I will !
Do you need silicone to seal the pan to the tiles? Its all tiled underneath so maybe not ?

the pans are never perfectly flat Dafty so I always bed them on plumbers mait just to cushion them but, if you prefer sillycunt, use it,  |

Yes, definitely screw the cistern. If you have a problem, you'll be glad you did. Angle the screw/plug hole upwards so you have room to get screwdriver in cistern. Use a metal washer on screw with a rubber tap washer underneath it to cushion and protect the porcelain when the screw is tightened.
Some bastard once used a whole tube of sillycoon on the back of a cistern that I had to change syphon on. I was not a happy bunny!  |

I would of more expected "can I drill the cistern as four fixing seems a more realistic way to do it than just two - especially for my pending over weight renter!!!! |

I think it started with the bath (if I'm feeling brave enough I might update on that later...) But here is a tip: Just because you cut a corner on one thing which you shouldn't but if you did, don't proceed to cut every other corner because you're fed up. |

Now remember always ask all your questions because there's no daft questions in the Brew Cabin. My tip on the job in case you keep the house and in ten years time you've got to work back on the cistern - I find it's worth putting a dab of Vaseline on the small handle screw inside the cistern, the doughnut fixing thread and nuts too. Plus all what Woody said but I like to use brass fixings although the cost of them can be shocking  |

I sometimes make a template out of wood for the cistern with the center marked and the holes ready drilled in it, you can then pencil mark the top of the cistern and the center on the wall before removing the cistern. Then use the template to line up with to drill the holes...you can't go wrong???  If you resort to mastic then it's a sure sign to any plumber in the future that "Bertie Bodgit" fitted it!  NB I'm not a fan of mastic around the pans because it quickly goes "piss yellow" and it soon looks so unhygienic, however, if it's bedding onto tiles then I'd perhaps then try a run of "no nails" on top of the tiles to bed the pan on. They're not those near on undrillable porcelain floor tiles you've got are they dd?  |

Well you see I didn't know just how much of a bodge that would be. I won't be going near doing that and I'm glad I double checked here!
Tiles are thick porcelain and very hard to cut and drill.
A year ago I bought about 50 6mm diamond drill bits for a few quid (less than a tenner?). I treat them as almost disposable but I can easily get 3 holes out of one. It does limit you to drilling 6mm though but I find thats liveable with most of the time espeically if I'm fixing into timber behind.

You can just stick the Cistern with a couple of blobs of silicone. I have just done an en-suite where the Cistern didn’t have holes for the screw to go through.
i have noticed this more over the last few years.
just make sure there is enough space to get a hand saw behind the Cistern so you can remove it when you need to.
