The Hive & Nest etc are no different from a RF room thermostat. All the remote control or Phone App is doing is switching a Relay via the WiFi in a Receiver Unit.

Goes to show why the manufacturers will keep making these needless gimzos and gadgets in that there's always the people who will keep buying them!
I went to a property the other day with one of those camera door bells on the front door I rang the bell and the owners phone app went off and he answered his phone and most likely saw a image of me outside his house his property he then told me that he "wasn't in" because he was at the doctors"!
Now, to me, someone paying over £1,000 for this type of thing has more money than sense, yet not everyone will see it the same way?

Seriously, people fill their lives with this over complicated, over priced techno-crap. Just because it's new and clever and everyone else is getting it - they have to have it. I like to keep things as simple as possible mainly because I can't be arzed to learn all this new shite. Oh, and I'm tight as 2 coats of paint too. Most people don't need this crap.
I like the KISS principle - Keep It Simple, Stupid - or sommat like that.. All I've got is a 9 year old desktop pc and 17 year old Nokia 6100 phone. And a calculator. And a Drayton wireless stat. Not even got a printer, because I can't justify it. On rare occasion I need anything printed I nip into library as you can print there. But that's only about 4 or 5 times a year.
But I realise we're all different.

I have a nest & it works well and I’ve mastered how to program it but I can’t see how it would work on a 2+ zone system.
The s plan is what’s I’ve put in.

I put a Honeywell digital room stat in for a guy last week, it replaced an old Timeguard stat. Showed him how it worked and he said "I want one with a back light "
