Hi all
Prob a stupid question but does it really.matter where you place jointing compound on a compression fittings.
On YouTube there are plumbers who place it around the olive, others at the back of thenolive and others use it in the thread of the male fitting.
Surly it ends up getting redistributed all over a joint when you nip the fitting up or am I missing a trick ??

On the olive & a wee dab on the thread La!!
On Male threaded fittings it’s a different kettle of fish.

Mainly on the olive for me, and a little bit ends up on the pipe too where the olive sits. No paste on male thread of compression fittings as this thread doesn't form any seal.
And if anyone wants to advertise to the world that they're a clueless DIYer, put half a roll of PTFE tape on the male thread.

Front of the olive or even around the inside of the fitting.

Yes, sometimes you can't push the nut back enough on the pipe to expose the olive so put some paste in end of fitting instead.
