You're worrying about the wrong sort of tanks. Did you see the Ruskies lining their armoury all along the Ukranian border the other day?
HAHA - you're not wrong about that. What they don't often say in the papers is that Ukraine and Russia are basically the same people. All Ukranians speak Russian as their mother tongue from birth (as well as Ukranian which is similar to Russian). I dunno its like Welsh and English. We make jokes etc and the Welsh have their own language but could you imagine England invading Wales these days? Touch wood, the worst that is going to happen is Putin takes a bigger slice of the country (coz he's not happy with Russia which is already the biggest country in the world). Kiev the capital where I'm going is right on the other side of the country from where the war is. Still you can never say never can you - especially as the yanks are very happy to send in tons of special forces and weaponry as they don't want russia to spread any further than Ukraine. But as I say they are trying to some extent to make the same people fight against each other. In some ways you could say WTF has it got to do with the USA. On the plus side most Russian people definitely do NOT want to invade - Putin will be mindful of that and the fact that just like my wife with both Russian and Ukranian grandparents a lot of russians will have relations in Ukraine. Thats my rant over for today. Hopefully I won't be writing an update to the BrewCabin from a shelled out block of flats.... Might check out the plumbing in the new flat though in case I ever need to fix it....

Like the fact that the Ruskies don't mess about, but often they have proved to be a lose cannon. Some crazy stuff goes on in that neck of the woods. Vodka is poss behind a lot of it. Remember when the Ukranian president got poisoned. Think it was the Ruskies again if I remember right. Watch what they inject you with, poss get the vax before you leave Blighty. But if you go for the local jab, make sure it says 'Sputnik' on the bottle - not 'Novichok'.
Sounds an interesting place, but the 9 month winters must be hard going. You don't do things by halves! Do you intend to buy a place over there eventually? What are the prices like?

Made me laugh Woody. You're 200% right about vodka and them as a nation and culture being a lose canon on occasion. Its scary that they have ballistic weapons. Not because they'll ever be ordered to be used but I could easily imagine a chain of events leading to some disaster. Well look at Chernobyl ?!! In Ukraine its further south so winters are as long as ours but colder. Spring/Summer is generally a bit warmer but more predictable since not surrounded by sea. Prices are obviously low at the moment but probably still not low enough. Like anywhere housing market can take a long time to reflect current events. My flights tomorrow and I must say I'm bricking it a bit. All these rules and evidence and I just don't want anything to get in the way of me seeing my little ones. Are you off to (was it Czech?) soon ?

Good luck with your trip, no easy feat at the moment. Hope you don't have to quarantine in a Travel Lodge in Hounslow for 1700 quid when you get back. Also expecting some interesting questions about Soviet plumbing. I'm sure they wouldn't have systems like us with header tanks. Mostly district heating in anything bigger than a small village.
CZ is on hold at the moment. Got a residency permit, so Brexit holds no fears for me. Renting a flat for tuppence a week in a town called Karvina in the Moravian side of CZ. Going to try to visit it later in year. Moravia is famous for wine, and of course their excellent beer is everywhere. Cheaper than water.

With your botched Plumber work Dafty, I’d shut the lot down & drain it!! Due to your great advice I have isolated the gas meter by capping the incoming gas off. So I can sleep soundly away from home knowing there is no gas in the property. Thanks so much Dick ! P.S. Whats your rgi number in case I get asked who gave me the advice ?

Here’s my GS number Dafty.........666👍👍👍 Cheers Dick. neighbour feeding my cat has reported a smell of gas in the garage. I told him to find the pipe incoming to the meter where I capped it and to wrap it in a bit of tape. He could also test with a lit match as you told me .
