I have a range cooker but the oven is not coming on. its a gas oven. I turn knob it lights up at the bottom but as soon as I let go go of knob it switches off. Can any one help?

sounds like the thermacouple is knackered aj, its a safety device on the cooker, search for your cookers make/model and oven thermacouple or flame failure safety device,

thanks tom. My cooker is a matrix mr311ss. Can it be cleaned or is it knackered.

Back when Gas Ovens were popular. They’re not popular any more, because electric ovens are more controllable. We had a lot of what was called ‘Turkey Oven’ repairs in January. The punters would stick a big bird in the Oven at Xmas & the Fat would overflow, blocking the burner, jets etc. Give them a good clean AJ, that may help👍👍

the burner aj, the bit that the main flames come from, use a damp cloth, not too wet to clean off any fat, also clean the thermacouple tip, use a bit of wire wool or pan scrubber on the t/couple tip,

When the oven ignites on the chosen gas mark value does it light with a small flame?
