Hi is ok toreplace a rubber washer with a fibre washer. Say for eg on tap connectors, or do washers need replacing in a like for lime basis ...im talking on water fittings not gas...

better to replace a fibre washer with another fibre washer because, A fibre washer expands when the water hits it, a rubber one does not,

Thanks Tom. So I assume a rubber washer needs replacing with rubber using the same principle...

I prefer like for like but have on many occasions just used what I have to hand.
However, what I have found is a fibre washer seldom fails if not disturb regardless of its time in service - yet I've found rubber washers weep / staining especially filter housing and flexi ones etc

Talking of fibre washers, anyone having troubles pushing the new red fibre washer onto endfeed tap connector? I'm finding the dark red ones a struggle but there's a lighter red colour goes straight on.🙄🙄🙄

If you can drop the ill fitting washer into a cup of boiling water it'll soften in no time and usually then becomes pliable enough to fit around the tap connector!
Does anyone still make PTFE grommet's?

New one on me, Tappy. For tap connectors? Sounds like that would make a good video.
Have used PTFE to rescue compression joints on plastic waste when I didn't have a new rubber seal to hand.

Does anyone still make PTFE grommet's? I at one time, always put some PTFE around the Fibre Washer on Tap Connectors. Many British taps were machined for a compression nut & olive, so no requirement for a tap connector. Also, I’ve used a Kingsley tool to form a Type B compression joint on a tap. Again, avoiding the requirement for a Tap Connector👍 Point being;!tap connectors are great & make for an easy connection, but check the tap tail. A good flat surface will be fine with just a fibre washer, but anything else needs to be addressed differently👍👍👍

I'll get on with as soon as I can then Woody.
Basically it's just the old hemp and boss white grommet only done in PTFE.
