Stainless Steel sink - underneath which the waste joins the overflow in a non stainless steel cowl - which has rusted through. The brass tail and backnut are corroded on to the cowl. I think the cowl is held on to the sink by the waste. If I cut the lot away with a slitting disc can I just stick on a new waste?
(I'll have to do something about the overflowbut that's not a priority) it's for an old Dear and the sink is built in to the shitty old kitchen and she can't afford a new kitchen.
How do I add a picture?
Thanks
Ray

I think you can just unscrew the centre screw in the plughole and the lot will fall off, then replace with a new one, www.screwfix.com/p/sink-waste-with-plug-chain-12/77140If I'm picturing right in my mind, to add a picture there is a tutorial made by me in Just talk, its a sticky at the top

you will struggle getting that overflow out so try joing the new over flow pipe into the existing outlet, I can imagine the shite up at the back of that sink and you will probably have to lay on your back to get at it, nasty job, you might need some of this,,,,,

Very brave of you Ray to have a go at this one (it's even got one of those filter taps to get in your way even more). Reminds me a lot of the kind of jobs that I used to get when I was the apprentice.
1"1/2" long tubby waste is what you'll need (perhaps you could leave unslotted and just do away with that built in overflow)? Good luck with this one.

Good one Ray, that looks a right bastard of a job, the grating will be easy enough, but I’d think you’d struggle with getting anything for the Overflow. I’d blank it off, with whatever you can.

All done. Phew. Paid in tea and biscuits. She was struggling with the taps and now well pleased with the new lever deck mixer. Bodged up the overflow as advised. It'll do.
