Though I’m a Scottish Aristocrat, I did spend my formative years in a Council House. And very much in contradiction of my Tory beliefs, social housing is imperative to our British society.
Excluding these High Rise Flats & system built houses, they were well built homes & required very limited maintenance.

Wow. Having enough money to own more than one home, and expecting some poor, desperate, person, to not only pay your mortgage, but anything that goes wrong with the property, and be thrown out on a whim? Part of me is rather warming to the carnage that is coming... The LL has his man come in. Just because the ticket is signed, doesn't mean it is safe. Espescialy when the hob blows off the work top...
All good points - I was just reporting it as it is. Russia is the same by the way. My own opinion is that the law in the UK is too much in favour of the tenant but where I'm going which I've made no secret of its the opposite. It probably needs to be somewhere in the middle.

The two are not mutually exclusive Dick. It was a terrible thing to sell off all those well built homes! I've posted about the (private) hole I grew up in, but could never vote for the red gang. Nor the blue at mo... Noticed how many wear red/pink ties in "The House"?
Good to see the Laird and Lairdess made you play with the great unwashed. The term "estate" must have been a bit confusing though!?

Update on the boiler. Nowhere round here could hire me a FGA, and as I had to sell my beloved bike last week, couldn't easily travel to get one. I came back from shopping yesterday, and spied a gas safe badge, (with human attached ), coming out from next door! £50 and less than 30 mins later, ALL CLEAR!! Nice to have a bit of luck, I found out yesterday I'm losing my job...

Sorry to hear that Karl, Although from what you've told us its not a great loss, I wish you luck in future employment, I don't know if its any use to you but, On the news the other day they said, Supermarket prices are rising because, they can't get drivers, I find that hard to believe as it only takes a few months to train to be a driver, still , what do i know,,, I don't think i could drive for a living because, I'd find it too stressful with todays standard of other drivers Morons on the road,

Thanks Tom. I saw a cracking job less than 10 mins walk from me yesterday. Can't take it as I wouldn't get paid off. Will keep an eye on it though.
Not keen on driving again, but will take whatever. I can turn my hand to a few things, though most of my tickets have run out. Stacking shelves sounds quite good! If I fuck up and put a tin of beans in the wrong place, neither I, or anyone else, is going to get maimed. Or worse.

Karl, does your mum have any form of instant heating in addition to the boiler ? IE a gas fire ? My grandmother was almost killed by the gas fire in her council house many years ago. Workmen had actually crushed the flue liner as they were putting it in. 😲😲

No JJ. She has always hated gas, and only puts up with boiler because she has to. Your mum was lucky! My ex works for EDF, and the horror stories she came out with. She wouldn't have gas in the house!! "Accidents" aren't that rare...!

I spoke to my mate at work today Tom, and fuck me, Iceland are offering 42k a year! I don't know where it was, but he reckons the industry is crying out. The firm is losing drivers to better paid companies.
Like most jobs, getting a ticket is one thing, becoming truley proficient is another. The last "driving" I did was only a 70 odd mile round trip for MOTs'. 9/10 hrs in the seat, with the madness that is on the roads these days... Years ago, drivers hated the idea of a camera in the vehicle. Now, most of the ones I know, have their own, as well as the company ones!!

thats serious money for sitting on your arse turning a wheel and pushing buttons, and like you rightly say, getting the ticket is only the start, actually doing it for a living and knowing the 'perks' the traps and getting the job done without jumping throu hoops, take time knowledge and experience just like any other job,

Good luck to anyone who drives for a living - whatever they drive. I would be off my chump after a week chained to a steering wheel, mile after boring mile on the motorway staring at the back of the lorry in front. How more of them don't fall asleep I'll never know. Whenever I'm doing a long drive, especially motorways, I can't wait to get to the destination. Couldn't be a driver for all the tea in China.
