Hi all Bought a couple of new drain off valves which I need to fit on a new rad...they are the ones that need soldering.however despite my best efforts I can't release the jumper so I can solder without melting the washer...does it need some.lube or.do some valves not allow the jumper to screw out

they should screw ut mate, is there a knurled nut on the end holding it in ? If so, undo he knurled nut fully off, then it will screw out. I would not solder it with the washer in place,

Strangely, I’ve recently seen some 15mm tail Type A MT Cocks that you can’t remove the Jumper to solder😡😡😡 They had a Red plastic cap on the 15mm tail.
I’d take them back to the supplier la & get ones you can do as you’ve said👍

How would you change the Washer in the future?? Throw it back at them, regardless of condition, tell them it’s ‘Un-merchantable quality’ & not ‘Fit for purpose’.

I agree with that, if you solder it with it closed, it won't open, if you solder it open, it won't seal, so its useless or a sDick rightly says, Fucking useless,

Drain offs got really rubbish in the 80s when the valves were made without a gland nut, just an hex. You'd attach the hose to the spout on the DO then open the hex, if you were lucky and the jumper wasn't stuck the washer would lift and the water then started to flow, however, only a small amount found it's way down the hose; a lot came pouring out of the hex and the water went everywhere, soaking carpets, flooring and anything else that was down they were a bloody nightmare. It eventually took a change in the water regulations to get them to be built with a gland nut and now it looks like the manufacturers have even managed to fuck up on the gland nuts by locking them down so you can't remove them !
