hello wingnut, as you know I am an old skool plumber, I do know what PH means and it does make a difference for what its worth, here's my tupence worth, To chance the PH of water you put something in to make it slippy like, fairy liquid and, it works, a noise boiler can be silenced using fairy liquid or any washing up liquid, Thats the limit of my scientific knowledge, I never, ever bought or added fancy priced chemicals, I did however bought inhibitor simply because, The manufacturer could invalidate the warrantee if the water had no inhibitor in, I never had the courage just to add washing up liquid, The old saying, " sinking a ship for a haputh or tar" was always in my head,

However, if you've got a cast iron heat exchanger and those old cast rads keep to 6.5 The gauge I've got cost £10 although never use it.

I don’t think I’ll have a cast HE the boiler is a main eco compact, I’ve defo got one cast iron school type radiator in my bathroom, the rest are the big standard white rads you get from screwfix

I think all the Main Eco Compact boilers are SS heat exchangers. So fairly bullet proof really, but hey a blockage will fuck any heat exchanger!!
PH levels is only one consideration in CH system water quality. You can have a neutral PH test & shitty water, failing a turbidity test….etc etc etc.
I wouldn’t stress too much about it, in sealed system; once the O2 is out the water & you’re not topping it up all the time, it’ll be OK👍👍
