Council have agreed to switch off the water to allow a new stopcock. Will I get a 22mm female iron on the branch here? What would you suggest? (Apart from "run" - I like a challenge) Attachments:

I would think that tee is a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 iron, getting it apart will be the challenge, you will need heat, good tools and luck, because if it splits, ( old iron will be very fragile ) you're in real trouble, I'd walk away from that.

I'd just change the stop tap top ray.
Is that 3/4" rising main going up into an above flat?

Hi CF I'd say the riser is about 1.5 inch and yes it's supplying flats above.

Wow! Respect to anyone that could sort that out.
If Dafty had to do it I'd agree with CF and wouldn't think about touching the rising main.
I hope we get to hear what happened ?

Leave the old SC on there & fit another one after it👍👍 I wouldn’t touch the Steel Pipe!! Or renew the whole lot from outside onto copper internally.. Tell them the steel is ready to burst.

A water board worker once told me that it was illegal to have two stop taps in line like that, it you were fitting a new stop tap you had to completely remove the old one? I've never come across this in any water regulations since, however, it has stuck in my mind since I was an apprentice. Anyone else ever heard of this one before?

I've never heard of that specific regulation although leaving a redundant fitting would probably be considered poor practice. In the case of the pipework at the flat I'll do as Dick suggest and leave the old, but I'll also be ready to deal with the branch if needed. Sometimes it is the downstream pipework holding everything together...

Customer changed their mind and wasn't prepared to wait for the council to switch off the main. Wanted it doing live. O thought about it but the decider was the pipework being on the floor, if it went to shit I wouldn't be able to divert the flow down the pan or out the window in an emergency (I'll put a tip on that in tips and tricks). Thanks all 👍
