There was a massive chunk of ivy growing over the side of the house reaching the eaves. Its roots were going down into the rainwater gulley. I cut it down a few months ago and not sure if its connected but now it takes ages to drain.
Is there anything I can pour down there to help or have I got to excavate the bloody thing? Its at ground level and the down pipe empties into it.

Put a picture up of the type of gulley would be handy - why some of them are easier to pull the header off to give access to the P-trap below.
this video explains the common set ups and one type is rod able the P-trap isn't.

Pic uploaded. I guess I'll need to excavate at least a little so see what kind of trap it is? I have a nasty feeling its clay. P.S. YOu can see the size of the ivy stub on the right at the back. Please ignore all the other pipes and rubbish - sorry for that. Attachments:

Never done an Ivy root system within a drain but have done a few conifer trees and they have come out quiet easily - the roots are small fibrous type within the pipe. I found once you get a good fixing around the root and solid purchasing point I used a cargo strap to pull them out.

I’d jet it before digging. It could a a 30 second fix.

THanks a lot to all. Hadn't thought of jetting. I've got one so will give it a go although I haven't got the attachment that runs down into the pipes so will have a think.
In any case, got sidetracked with more important things - my bloody satellite stopped working since I've been away due to neighbours trees. Am relocating the dish as it will be easier (a bit easier that is....I've done one before and finding the signal took me hours)
