I never knew Dick Turpin was still alive. But apparently he's still kicking and running Franke spare parts.
Got a customer with a belfast sink and the back of the unit is in the way of access to replace the taps. Thay're Franke Planar taps.
A 'plumber' replaced her 1/4 turn cartridges a little over a year ago and now the handles are loose. The splines are worn down on the handles themselves so only being held in place with the grub screws, I tightened them as a temp fix but new handles are needed.
Literally 2 minutes research and I found that Franke changed the inserts from a 20 spline to a 28 spline around the time that the customer originally had these taps installed (2009). So it's obvious that the 'plumber' who changed the inserts forced 28 spline inserts into a 20 spline handle which will have knackered the fit, a year later they are inevitably just about hanging on.
So new inserts and new handles needed. Went to the Franke website and it's £110 for 2 inserts and 2 handles. (inserts £20 each, handles £35 each)
£110 for about a tenners worth of spares. Poofix do inserts for a fiver a pair and probably make a 100% mark up so it can't be costing Franke more than 2 or 3 quid for the pair, and the handles are about 100 grams of moulded steel each so £3 each is a very generous estimate of what it costs them.
Absolute daylight robbery and this is the reason I never install Franke products. I've even had a customer who wanted me to install some Franke taps he had bought and I showed him the spares prices and got him to take them back and get a different brand.
Does this look like £110 worth of stuff to you? The rad valve wasn't included
