Hi Guy's really fancy being able to offer / use Press Fittings that use these electro mechanical guns to press the
fittings instead off Compression, push fit, Soldering, The main problem for me is the PRICE of these guns Approx £1000.00
way too expensive for me ...........Has anyone got any thoughts or experience with the Hand operated versions there like garden shears
would really like to hear peoples thoughts on this subject !!!!!!!!

I know they exist, however, I've never used them so I can't comment on them. I'm too old now to start experimenting with new fangled ideas. I do know that all my plumbing life many plumbing ideas/fittings have come and gone, whilst copper capillary joints and compression fittings have been the main stay. Push-fit's and plastic pipe do seem to be with us now and I can't really see them losing favour in the near future. However, you never know and all it will take is a major health scare on them to become obsolete overnight. Around 20 years ago a heating job for the local council was all done with a newly invented plastic pipe crimp system..... which is now obsolete. Will press guns go the same way? Only time will tell if they will become a feature in the museum of obsolete plumbing items!

I'm of the same mind as Tappy ( crowsfoot) I'm not going to spent a fortune on a gizmo when I know I can join pipes for a fraction of what that costs, If someone asked me to do a job and specified they wanted press fitted joints, I would be glad to do it if, they agreed to buy the stuff,

Hi Tom / Tappy
I fully understand your thoughts as how long soldered / Compression fittings have been around and fully agree
the thing for me is press fittings offer something different !!! if you look on YouTube you can watch Allen Hart / PB Plumber
they seem to use the Press fittings all the time !!!!
The biggest advantage for me is being able to join Wet Pipe and very quickly
would love to hear what Pb and rocky has to say about this topic !!!!
thank you..............

As others have said, I’m too old to buy gear like that. Plus the mob I work for would never change onto Crimp Fittings. All just PF Plastic for First Fix, Copper & EndFeed for surface pipework, Gas etc.
Though I can see how economic it would be to use, fittings are expensive, but the Labour time saver & no Flux, Hot Work etc. The Install does need to be planned carefully, with limited access to get the Crimpers in..
I think PF Plastic & EF will see me until the end of my career👍👍👍

Don't forget most if not all of the YouTube umbers get tools for free to do promo vids for the rest of us to be seduced into buying tools... There's a common theme with these YouTubers Veto and velocity tools bags Uni light torches Knipex hands tools etc. They get em sent to them for free.

If you're worried about wet pipe astra just use quality compression fittings, job done, sorted. Can't justify press fitting, very expensive. Compression fittings and solder fittings will outlive press fittings I think, just my opinion.

Press fittings are more suited to the user that does the bigger install work or commercial grade work where hot works are not permitted, if you are basically a jobbing plumber carrying out repairs etc then your return on the tool and fittings will be extremely slow and your charges will have to increase. As for the guys on YouTube using this stuff it's like a plumbers fashion parade, you watch Tom's videos and that's real plumbing with no fancy gadgets. I see it as this : compression fittings are reusable - can be used on pipes with water present - if they are weeping you can dismount them, some jointing compound and reassemble Endfeed fittings if soldered right will be there a life time, they can be un-sweated if needed. Also they are very cheap
Pushfit - JG and Hep are so reliable now days(50 yr guarantee) quick to fit and very well priced too. Easily dismounted and reused if needed - They can be a life saver on emergency jobs or working on live supplies. When you way up the cost of the press tool and fittings - yes it's quicker ! As dickie said you need plenty of room to use it - they are not dismountable so are not reusable, you crimp one on and make a mistake you'll have to cut it out and start again. And they do leak sometimes, I've been to jobs where they have been used and one is weeping. In America where lots of states have well water homes they found the well water was affecting the seal within the press fitting. KEEP IT OLD SCHOOL AND YOU'LL HAVE NO REGRETS

Yes, have to remember that at the end of the day, crmp fittings have o rings just like PF. No rubber/nitrile to degrade in compression and end feed.
Saw a famous US plumber ("next level, Mama!") once soldering fittings on a pipe very close to existing crimped fittings. Christ knows what affect that heat had on the crimp fittings seals. Still, it was leak free as he drove away, so not his fault if it leaks at a later date.

Yep, their well water seems very aggressive. Who knows what's in it and what it does to your insides. Like drinking a gallon of farmhouse scrump.
