Hello
I need to change some bath taps. Vented system. Gate valves in airing cupboard don’t move, the tank in the loft is too deep for me to get my bung in!
I can turn water off in the road no problem.
This is how I got a nasty airlock all those years ago that shattered my confidence!!!!
I don’t like freeze kits although I have one. I could use it.
The saving grace is that the taps connect to the pillars so I don’t need to get under the bath. I can just undo 2 nuts & a quick swap as the new taps are identical.
Any thoughts please? It’s literally a 2 minute swap if I can isolate the hot & cold. The cold is tank fed.
Cheers all.

From what your saying since your not keen on freezing, you've got potential just todo both the taps as a snatch limited risk if you've turned the mains off. The spillover could be directed into the bath so controlled mess there and if your struggling you know you've no more than a cylinder of hot water and a couple of tanks of cold depending on your customers setup at next to no pressure!

Yes. It could be possible to snatch it with the mains off.
What do you think the chances are of an airlock if I run the hot tap until it stops then swap it?

Next to no chance - I think you'll have it fitted that quick because you'll be all set up for it - most importantly the pressure could be controlled by your thumb as you have a drink of tea while admiring the customers bathroom.

If you're going to snatch it you could tie ball valve up/turn mains off and Syphon the tank so you got less pressure coming down at you, another option you could install a Aladdin easy fit isolated valve (bloody pricey though)which allows you not to turn anything off. I'd drain it if it was me and if I get air locks I send mains pressure up the hot and blow the air lock out. Tom did great vid on this situation 👍

If I'm picturing this correctly , you have a mixer bath tap that fits on two pillars like this, with unions that are easy to get at If thats right, yea, you can easily turn of the cold and change the taps and the hot will go into the bath, If you are quick it can be done before any scalding hot comes at you, undo the cold first, let it swing lose then undo the hot, use your thumb to stop it then connect the hot first and swing it back to position, piece of piss,

I bunged the tank on the end. I have to go deep but it was the easiest way. Both hot & cold needed bungs & I only had one so I made another from my largest Allen key & ptfe. Worked a treat. 2 minute job to swap.
Cheers all
