Hello
I need to swap my 24l expansion vessel on the heating side as I can’t get the shrader valve out.
Is it a case of letting remaining air out, fill valves closed & undoing it?
I’ve never done one but can’t see it taking more than a few minutes off & new one on, pressure up to 1.5 bar, bleed rads & check pressure. All good for winter.
Cheers all

Don’t worry Rocky, just drain the CH system & it should be OK. If the EV is flooded, bore a hole in it to drain it. A 24Kilo EV is a bastard to remove, so make sure it’s drained!

Do I need to drain down?
The boiler & expansion vessel is in the loft so can I not make sure the pressure is at zero & unscrew it?

Do I need to drain down? The boiler & expansion vessel is in the loft so can I not make sure the pressure is at zero & unscrew it? If there's a isolator on the EV just shut that and your good to go - just following your normal plumbing practices of good housekeeping and it will be swapped in no time. Then recharge the boiler back to system pressure after opening the EV isolator once the replacement EV is installed.

Have a bucket at the ready though rocky, just in case.
You could try and pump the excess water out of the old E.V. first (don't forget to leave the drain tap open and hose still attached though).
If you use the strap to attach the new vessel then tighten the strap up first before you lower the new E.V. into it (if you can) , it's very difficult to tighten up the strap enough with EV in place.
