Hi all Have a cast iron toilet waste pipe feeding into a plastic external soil.pipe..im refurbishing my bathroom and the existing toilet sits 2 inches from the wall and has that shite piece of timber bracing it from behind...weve bought the house and bathroom is.prob 20 yrs old... Is there any way of telling in advance whether the new wc will.sit flush to the wall before installing it ?? Would rather not touch the waste pipe if at all possible...tia

hi La' If I'm understanding what you mean, look at the toilet you are wanting if its like A in the picture, you won't need to move the cast iron pipe, if its like B, you will need to move or cut the cast iron pipe,

Hi Tom thanks
Existing toilet is like pic 1 in your dia ...I assume all new close coupled wcs are like pic 2 ??
Ps would.you cut waste pipe from inside rather than completely replace external pipework if inwant a wc like pic 2
Also what's best tool to.cut iron pipe neatly???

ok firstly not all new toilets are like pic 2, pic 2 is a 'back to the wall' toilet, you can get toilets like pic 1 from anywhere, you have to gauge the fit on site, the height and distance from the outlet can vary so a good friend to you would be a flexible connector, www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-wc-f26r-flexible-wc-pan-connector-white-97-107mm/71219these come in various sizes so, you need to put the toilet near to the place its going to be and, take a good guess of what connect works for you, its a trial and error operation , I hope this helped but sometimes its better t get a plumber in to advice and get an estimate,

to cut the cast iron you need a grinder or you can saw it with a hacksaw but, its a long and hard job, a grinder is quick but sparks fly everywhere so, wear gloves googles and shut the door to stop the mess going in the house,

If it's CI going into plastic it wouldn't be easier to chop the soil pipe out and renew the section going to the new WC in plastic?
