Hi finally worked out how to add image don’t judge me I know it’s manky ( just bought house) and now refurbishing bathroom in jan look at the cast iron waste. It appears to be surrounded with a softer material I’ve not seen before cani just trim this pipe back with a recip saw ? Will new couplers fit straight into the iron pipe. Does the softer material around the pipe form part of the seal im leaning towards ripping the whole lot out and replacing with new plastic.just trying to develop my knowledge for the future.tia Attachment Deleted

Thanks battle. Then the usual coupler would fit into that drain socket you provided link for ? or would it be a longer drain socket that links cast iron pipe straight into the wc outlet ?

After you've got the cast iron to plastic hopefully just the usual pan connector is what would be sweet but not always the case www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-macfit-mac-1-wc-straight-pan-connector-white-90-112mm/78806Either way there's plenty options and none of them are serious money.

It does look a bit of a mess up and the soil pipe comes through the wall at a lower level than the WC, hence the offset pan connector that's been used. The best job as said before would be to chop it out and renew it in plastic. However if it's going to make a mess of the outside rendering I would cut it off as close to the inside wall as possible with a grinder (anything else is going to take you all day plus) and then connect it up using a short range flexible WC connector. www.cityplumbing.co.uk/McAlpine-Short-Flexible-WC-Connector-to-Suit-110mm-Soil-Pipe-WC-F18R/p/402420

Save any farting about la, just replace it with plastic through the wall.

Not when I tried it, although having a decent blade could've been the bogey for me. Some CI is thicker, harder and heavier than other types of CI. There's also a CI alloy that was used, it's much thinner and not brittle like cast is (it rusts though) so it could be made of this material which may cut more easily.
