on a bath I just use washers supplied and 99.9% of the time, that works for me,

Roger (the dodger) Bisby said to put them in dry on one of his videos (can't remember which one though).
This is also what I do.

I find that if you use the supplied washers only - 1 in 10 is going to need looking at once everythings in place and hard to get to so I use plumbers mait on top and silicone underneath, that combination works every time for me.

I’m supplied washer top and plumbers mate on the bottom as I like a final nip.
